It’s a Good Thing You’re So Cute

– Posted in: Worst Mom Moments

After dropping out of birthing class, Mom in Rome is back! You have to give her credit — she joined our ranks before she even HAD the kid. This time, she’s ready to “make meaningful observations” about life as a new mom. You can follow all of her adventures with little baby Giulia at her blog, Mom in Rome.

After my first month of motherhood I learned a couple of main things about this very peculiar experience:

• You really have to learn how to do everything with one hand.

• You will never sleep again. Ever.

• You will never have a peaceful meal again. Forget about it.

• Everybody will see through you, as if you were totally transparent. All the attention is driven to your baby now. What are you thinking, uh?!

• You become something similar to a mix between a cow (body) and an unbrushed Shih Tzu ( head).

• You will never, ever receive a gift again. All of them will be for the little new born. What the hell!

• It will be really hard to get a decent hairstyle. But you will, even though it means giving up those two hours of sleep that may save your life and your brain.

• The only thing you can do while breast feeding is blogging (this is why your blog’s posts number tremendously increased during the last month).

• You have to live with a bottle of water attached to your neck (which will give you a Saint Bernard dog’s look – not that bad).

• You eventually won’t have a life anymore.

• Your highest level of social life is when you go to the bar downstairs and get a cappuccino. Cool.

• You will never, ever watch the 11 p.m. TV movie again. It will be hard enough to listen to the 8 p.m. news before you crash into bed.

• Your dog will hate you for the rest of her life because, no matter what you do to please her, she knows that from now on she will have to share you with the new born.

• You are fatter than you were before and you will have to starve for the next 20 years in order to get back into your favorite pants.

• You have a son/daughter and this makes your life complete.

• All the above my be worth it.

Love everything about this post! All of it is so true (in the beginning, at least). Sleep will come back eventually… Maybe. And breastfeeding is a great way to lose the baby weight. Congratulations!!

Oh the dog diss! I felt so bad for my two dogs when we had our first child. They were previously our "kids" and when the teeny people arrived it was "to the back seat with you, furry ones!" 🙁

Also, the good thing about not having a life anymore is how easily we can be amused now. 😉 Great post!
