Little Girl Interrupted

Everyone’s getting in on the action here at World’s Worst Moms.  The other day, I heard this little tale while riding in the car to school with my 6-year-old daughter, Elfie, a.k.a. “the reporter.”

Elfie:  “Hey, Mommy, I have a story you should put on World’s Worst Moms.”

Me:  “Okaaaay. . . what is it.”

Elfie:  “My friend Jane, from school, told me her little sister fell out of her crib and was crying, but her mom never came.  So Jane went in and got her.”

Me:  “Wait, she fell out of her bed?”

Elfie:  “No, out of her crib.  She’s a baby.”

Me:  “Yep.  Yep.  That’s a good one. . .”

yikes! which is worse, that it happened or that the daughter was talking about it at school (meaning I'm sure more than just your daughter heard about it!)

Have you contacted the mom yet? If it were my kids, I know what the real story would be….I'd be in the shower thinking the baby was safe in the crib, her older brother would climb into the crib, torture her in some way, and then cover up the evidence (in his mind, saving his little sister).

THEN he'd tell some skewed version of events that would probably sound even worse than the one above!

Us moms have it tough!

I'm pretty sure I know who this is (I obviously don't know them well), and they seem like perfectly reasonable, responsible people. I don't doubt it was some sort of “in the shower” scenario. I remember my son throwing himself out of his crib one night when he was so small that I didn't think it was possible. So I'm guessing this was the same thing. He was fine — kids bounce. Besides, there's a good possibility that Jane was actually tasked to look out for the baby in the first place (she's 9)!

And KD, you're right. It's tough all over. Honestly I think the funnier part about this story is that Elfie is farming for stories for the site. That's my girl. . .

I fell out of my crib, too, but I was 4. I was trying to climb out of it. My Mom was in the kitchen and came running to check on me. After that, I got a “big girl” bed.
