I’m not going to write a whole lot about the horrible shooting in Aurora last week — other people have done a stellar job of that already (including my friend over at DeBie Hive). But I feel like I can’t move on to anything else until I’ve acknowledged it.
So let me just say this: one thing that’s stuck out to me, while reading and listening to all the coverage, is the use of the word “senseless.” This was an act of senseless violence. A senseless massacre. I even saw “senseless mass killing.”
And now I’m just trying to come up with an example of when a massacre of any kind has ever truly made sense.
Peace be with you, Aurora.
When I picked the girls up from camp that day, one of them said the camp counselors were talking about seeing the new Batman movie and the other counselor said, "Don't get shot." "What did he mean, mommy?" So, thanks to some ignorant camp counselors, and one evil man, I found myself telling my 7 and 9 year old that a man shot a lot of people at a showing of Batman. "Where did he shoot them, mommy? Are they alright?" "No, honey, no, I'm so sorry, a lot of them died."
So, so awful….

I am going to admit to watching NO coverage of the event…I really like your point as to senseless.
My recent post Caught off guard
A friend and I were talking about it in the car (just a TINY bit) and of course the kids overheard us. I tried to tell them as little as I could without lying, but it's impossible to explain it away. Truth is, some kid at school will tell them all about it.
I didn't watch very much. But it didn't take very much.
Why didn’t I know about this post? Thanks for the shout out.. sorry I didn’t see it sooner. Cannot wait to see what you come up with!
