Elfie with her Pleasant Pops Loot

I love Kickstarter. If you don’t already know, it’s this website that lets people who have really good ideas (okay, sometimes not such good ideas) put them out in the universe and ask everybody in cyberland to help pay for them. I want to say the fancy word for it is “crowdfunding.”

Kickstarter is also like voting. If your project doesn’t get enough money to make its goal amount, you get NOTHING. So its like everyone telling you to go back to the drawing board — your idea kind of stinks…

Anyway, we have some friends who are doing really well as a result of their foray into Kickstarter. I worked with one of the guys on the Obama campaign, where almost everybody was about 15 years younger than I was, so he has a bit of a little brother feel. And I’m just so proud of him (squeezes cheeks, makes him want to smack me).

Anyway, these guys make Pleasant Pops — popsicles from fresh, local ingredients. Unfortunately, they’re only in D.C., so we just get to look at them and drool. But they did send us all of this nice loot, including recipes for pops that Elfie wants to try and I’ll probably never get around to making because they call for stuff like “dried culinary lavender flowers” and “macha powder” (are you guys trying to kill me here?).

But I digress. The reason I brought this up in the first place was because of this cool project I saw today called StoryCorps. Basically NPR goes out, interviews people about their lives, and then they animate the audio. It sounds hokey, but it’s so fun to watch. If they get the funding, it’ll run on PBS next year.

I threw in five bucks. And as Rachel Maddow likes to say, best new thing in the world today.

As long as they promise to interview people more interesting than me, I could throw in $5…cool idea, thanks!

I think they mainly do older people. And they’re a total riot.
